Kent County Council has initiated a targeted COVID-19 booster vaccination campaign aimed at the county’s most vulnerable citizens—residents aged 75 and older. This initiative is designed to bolster protection against the virus, which remains a significant health concern despite the widespread adaptation to living with it.
Eligibility for the booster extends to residents who are currently 74 but will turn 75 by June 30th. The council has emphasized the accessibility of the vaccination process, encouraging eligible individuals to proactively book their appointments through the NHS website, its dedicated app, or by visiting local GP practices and pharmacies. For those who prefer a more direct approach, drop-in vaccination centers are also available.
The local health authorities have streamlined the booking process, enabling residents to schedule their shots without waiting for a personal invitation from the NHS. This can be done online or by calling the toll-free number 119, where services include the availability of translators to assist with appointment scheduling.
Dr. Ellen Schwartz, Kent County Council’s Deputy Director of Public Health, highlighted the importance of the booster for those at higher risk. “While we are learning to live with COVID-19, the virus is still present and poses a serious risk to our elderly and immunocompromised residents,” she explained. “Top-up vaccinations are crucial to prevent severe illnesses and hospitalizations within these groups.”
The campaign also extends to individuals residing in care homes, who are being offered the seasonal vaccination as part of the county’s comprehensive approach to public health.
