Emmerdale spoilers this week: 19 to 23 October

Thirteen things happen this week, across four stories. The biggest is Belle Dingle learning that Tom King is being released from prison early.

ITV releases the week’s spoilers without saying which night each scene airs, so the order below is by storyline rather than by day.

Tom King is released early

Tom was jailed for his campaign of coercive control against his wife Belle. This week a Victim Liaison Officer calls on her to say he is being let out early, under strict licence conditions.

Kammy Hadiq, who has been quietly in love with Belle for months, is the one who worries about how she will take it.

Then Charles Anderson, the village vicar, overhears Belle telling Nicola and admits something awkward: he has been visiting Tom in prison as chaplain. Tom, he says, accepts he is to blame and wants Belle’s forgiveness.

Belle decides to go and see him. Her brother Cain and Kammy talk her out of it, and she is left frightened that once Tom is out he will come looking for her.

Rhona backs Belle in public. In private she tells Cain what she actually thinks: that Tom could be more dangerous now than he was before he went in.

Kammy tells Belle he loves her

He picks the week her abuser is released to say it out loud. Belle runs off, unable to answer him.

Kim Tate’s secret daughter closes in

Thea Ramsden arrived in the village in August as a police detective. In September it was revealed she is Kim Tate’s biological daughter, given up for adoption as a baby, and she has been working against the Tate family ever since with her friend Serena Sugden.

This week Thea overhears Kim and Lydia talking and draws the wrong conclusion about a baby. Serena tells her to leave it alone. Thea carries on, gets hold of Kim’s phone and downloads her messages to go through them.

Then a social worker arrives at Home Farm demanding to see Joe, after a report of an illegal adoption. Given that Kim gave Thea away as a baby, the timing is not subtle.

Separately, Lydia is under the impression Kim has offered Samson a job. Kim says there is no job.

Gabby tries to reach Joe

Gabby attempts to get through to Joe over his grief. He wants nothing to do with her.

The missing £100,000

Sarah and Aaron start working through the suspects over the money that disappeared after the poker game.

Sadie King goes after Caleb

Sadie King is back in the village after twenty years away, played again by Patsy Kensit. She was married to Jimmy King for seventeen years and spent most of her original run scheming against the family business.

Now she has set her sights on Caleb Milligan. The plan is to seduce him and break up his marriage to Ruby, and she starts by tracking the couple’s dinner plans.

Chas suspects Liam

Chas notices Liam behaving oddly and tries to get the truth out of him.

Emmerdale spoilers next week: 26 to 30 October

ITV has not released them yet. Spoilers usually land about a week ahead, so expect them on Friday.

This page is updated the moment they are out. The Tom King story is the one to watch: his release has been set up all week, and James Chase’s return was confirmed by ITV in September.

When is Tom King back in Emmerdale?

ITV confirmed on 22 September that James Chase is reprising the role. No on-screen return date has been announced.

Chase has said stepping back into the part is a responsibility he takes seriously, describing Tom as driven by obsession and a need for control. Producer Laura Shaw has framed the return around the lasting effects of abuse rather than a simple villain’s comeback.

This week’s episodes are the setup. Belle learns he is coming out; he is not back in the village yet.

What time is Emmerdale on?

8 pm on ITV1, Monday to Friday, with Coronation Street following at 8.30 pm.

Both soaps have run in that hour since January 2026, with five 30-minute episodes each a week.

You do not have to wait for 8 pm. New episodes go up on ITVX and YouTube at 7am the same morning, so you can watch tonight’s episode over breakfast. ITV’s Emmerdale page carries the official episode listings.

ITV moves the soaps for football and other live sport several times a season, so the 8 pm slot is reliable rather than guaranteed. Nothing is scheduled to disrupt them this week.
