In a brazen display of defiance, Ewan Aaron Corbett, 25, who is wanted by UK authorities in connection with the death of his friend Shane Finn, 21, in a car crash, has been taunting police with photos of his globetrotting adventures. Evading a court appearance in 2022, Corbett is accused of causing Finn’s death and has since surfaced in Switzerland, Thailand, and Vietnam, utilising a fake identity to enter countries.

Despite an ongoing international manhunt and Interpol issuing a red notice for his arrest, Corbett boldly shared images of himself on social media, including one in Malaysia posing with a toy gun. His audacious posts reveal his carefree lifestyle and seemingly delight in his status as a wanted man, as evidenced by captions like ‘Body like Baywatch, face like Crimewatch’ and ‘Before I disappear off the face of the earth.’

While prosecutors detailed his attempts to elude capture, police in the UK issued an appeal for information on Corbett’s whereabouts. Prosecutor Timothy Jacobs informed York Crown Court about Corbett’s movements in Southeast Asia, using a false identity and resorting to bribes to enter countries. Despite the Interpol red notice, authorities are hesitant to initiate full extradition proceedings until his precise location is confirmed.

Corbett, originally from Middlesbrough, faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and an additional allegation of dangerous driving in a separate incident in November 2021. The fatal collision occurred in May 2020 on Knott Road in the North York Moors National Park.

As Corbett continues to flaunt his life on the run, his trial is scheduled for September, with proceedings agreed to go ahead even if held in his absence. His defence counsel, Victoria Lamballe, indicated the lack of instructions from Corbett and the likelihood of withdrawing from the case. Monday’s hearing witnessed the attendance of family members of the victim, Shane Finn, adding a sombre note to the ongoing legal saga.
