Brits face a chilly start to April as forecasts predict snowfall and bitter temperatures across the country

The UK is bracing for an Arctic deep freeze that’s expected to send temperatures tumbling to as low as -10C in parts of Scotland by April 10, heralding a return to wintry conditions across the nation. Weather maps have turned a frosty blue, signalling a significant drop in temperatures, with the Highlands anticipated to be the coldest region.

Forecasts indicate that on the morning of April 10, temperatures across the UK will struggle to rise above zero, reaching only 2-3C in East Anglia at their peak. This sudden temperature drop is accompanied by signs of snow, as weather maps predict a “double event” affecting Scotland, Manchester, Birmingham, and other northern areas.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast underscores the uncertainty of next week’s weather, suggesting a shift towards unsettled conditions as a new low-pressure area moves across the UK. This changeable weather pattern is expected to dominate the period, bringing showers, longer spells of rain, and the potential for snow in various parts of the country.

While southern regions may experience the wettest weather, northern parts are likely to remain drier on average. However, temperatures across the UK will fluctuate, occasionally dipping cooler in the north and warmer in the south.

James Madden from Exacta Weather warns that wintry conditions could make a significant comeback early next week and persist through the first half of April. This forecast follows recent snow events and aligns with high-confidence signals and multiple model runs indicating widespread snow prospects and even harsher Arctic cold.

The UK last experienced spring snow in April 2019, but as recent as Thursday, the South West witnessed a light snowfall, hinting at the unpredictability of this year’s spring weather.

As Brits prepare for the upcoming cold snap, it’s crucial to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe during this unexpectedly wintry start to April.
