Concerned passengers’ report of locked toilet leads to discovery and diversion

A Jet2 flight from Tenerife to Manchester took a grim turn when a passenger was found dead in the airplane’s toilet, prompting an emergency diversion to Cork Airport on Tuesday.

Fellow travelers became alarmed when they noticed that a cubicle had been locked for an extended period. After alerting the crew, a devastating discovery was made, and the decision was made to divert the flight to Cork.

Jet2 Airlines issued a statement saying, “Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday, January 2, due to a customer requiring medical attention. Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away, despite the best efforts of our highly-trained crew who intervened as soon as they became aware. This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew, and we would like to thank them for their efforts. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”

A passenger on board recounted, “My husband reported someone had been in the plane’s toilet for a long time, and he said that he thought he was dead. Tragically he was right. Toilets should be checked more regularly when an event like this happens. If they were, maybe the poor man could have been saved. I heard he traveled alone. Everyone on board was very upset by the tragic circumstances.”

The flight, originally destined for Manchester, eventually landed in Cork, with passengers expressing their shock and sadness over the unfortunate incident. The airline expressed condolences to the deceased passenger’s family and praised the crew’s efforts during a challenging situation.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in March, where a passenger died on a Jet2 flight from Antalya to Britain, prompting an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport. Cabin crew members attempted resuscitation for 40 minutes, but the 44-year-old passenger did not survive.
