September 2023 saw the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on the PS5 and August for the PC. Because of Microsoft’s stance of requiring full feature parity on the Series X and S, the Xbox version is delayed. Split-screen multiplayer proved to be challenging to implement on the Series S, as Larian has already disclosed, which caused the highly anticipated game’s release on both Xbox platforms to be postponed. Microsoft even intervened to assist the Belgian firm in making the game more suitable for the console’s less powerful version.
In the end, Microsoft deviated from its guideline and let Baldur’s Gate 3 to launch on Series S without split-screen cooperative gameplay. However, both developers later said that they were still in the process of implementing this feature.
