Diana Ross, Sabrina Carpenter and Lewis Hamilton lead a glittering lineup at this year’s Met Gala, celebrating “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style
The Met Gala 2025 delivered its usual spectacle of high fashion and celebrity flair on Monday night, as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York welcomed some of the world’s most famous names dressed to impress—and provoke.
With the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, this year’s gala honoured the cultural, political and historical influence of Black men’s fashion. The red carpet quickly became a catwalk of creativity, with stars paying homage to Black style with tailored elegance, glimmering accessories, and daring silhouettes.
Leading the charge was music legend Diana Ross, who embodied the night’s reverence for Black excellence in a gown that blended disco glamour with regal grace. She was joined by Sabrina Carpenter, who stepped out in a structured ensemble that balanced romantic flair with sharp tailoring, while Alicia Keys stunned alongside husband Swizz Beatz, both in coordinated looks nodding to classic Harlem cool.
Co-chair and British F1 star Lewis Hamilton stood tall in a tailored black suit detailed with African-inspired embroidery, asserting both sophistication and heritage. Meanwhile, Damson Idris, star of the upcoming F1 movie, made a dramatic entrance in a racing-themed outfit—helmet included—before pulling off a mid-carpet costume change with the help of two assistants.
Among other standout appearances, Sydney Sweeney turned heads with a noir-inspired look, while Demi Moore graced the carpet in a bold sculptural dress that channelled couture drama. Patrick Schwarzenegger and Walton Goggins, both from The White Lotus, opted for traditional suits with contemporary twists.
On the bolder end of the spectrum, Lizzo arrived in a futuristic ensemble adorned with shimmering metallics, and Dua Lipa returned to the Met’s steps in a dazzling display of sequins. Megan Thee Stallion leaned into high-octane glam, while Lauryn Hill kept things effortlessly cool with layered streetwear chic.
The red carpet also saw appearances from elite athletes and billionaires. Simone Biles floated in a gossamer white creation, Serena Williams delivered old-Hollywood glamour with a modern twist, and Norwegian billionaire Gustav Magnar Witzoe brought sleek minimalism to the proceedings.
And, of course, Kim Kardashian made her mark in a silver corseted gown that clung to every curve, ensuring yet another year of headline-grabbing fashion moments.
The night wasn’t just about visual dazzle—it was a sartorial statement. With tailoring as the focal point, many stars used their outfits to reflect themes of empowerment, identity and legacy. Designer Paul Tazewell, known for his work on Hamilton and The Color Purple, walked the carpet with Janelle Monáe, whose suit-dress hybrid paid homage to the sharp-dressed jazzmen of the 1930s.
Shakira, representing Latin excellence, and Alton Mason, one of the first Black male models to walk for many major fashion houses, also stood out with looks that blended modern streetwear with classic menswear cues.
This year’s Met Gala didn’t just raise fashion’s bar—it underlined the cultural power of tailoring as a form of personal and political expression, all while delivering the drama, glamour and theatricality that fans across the globe have come to expect.
