Hull climb out of the relegation zone after an emphatic win, as Sheffield United miss their chance to go top.
Hull City delivered a crucial blow to Sheffield United’s promotion hopes with a dominant 3-0 win at Bramall Lane. The Tigers, fighting to escape relegation, took an early lead through Matt Crooks, who scored a stunning 25-yard strike in the sixth minute on his first start for the club.
Despite Sheffield United’s efforts to respond, including disallowed goals and near misses, Hull struck again in the 63rd minute when Matty Jacob capitalised on Cody Drameh’s low cross to score his first Championship goal. The game was sealed in the 88th minute with an own goal by Harrison Burrows, deflecting Joao Pedro’s cross into his net.
Hull’s win marked their third consecutive away victory under Ruben Selles, who praised his squad’s belief and execution. The result lifts Hull to 18th, two points clear of the bottom three. Sheffield United, meanwhile, remain second in the league but lost the opportunity to overtake leaders Leeds United, who play Burnley next.
Chris Wilder admitted his side lacked rhythm and quality, particularly while fielding a stretched lineup. He emphasised the need to recover quickly as reinforcements return from injury.
For Hull, this performance bolsters their survival campaign, with a renewed sense of optimism heading into the season’s final stretch.
Hull City’s resurgence continues, while Sheffield United must regroup in the race for automatic promotion.
