Why did Amol Rajan leave Radical?
Neither the BBC nor Rajan has given a public reason that we can find, and the BBC’s announcement of the relaunch doesn’t mention him.
The change caught some listeners out because it wasn’t the plan in January. When Rajan announced he was leaving Today, Press Gazette reported that he would carry on hosting Radical and University Challenge, and he said he was “very much not leaving the BBC”.
His Radical exit came in the same year he left Today to build his own company. The timing lines up, but that is our observation, not a reason either side has given.
Listeners have noticed the change. Since the relaunch, a number of reviews on Apple Podcasts have criticised the new host, and at least one has asked for Rajan to come back.
Who is the new host of Radical?
The new host of Radical is Gabriel Gatehouse, the award-winning BBC journalist behind the podcast The Coming Storm. The show is now called Radical with Gabriel Gatehouse.
He presented his first episode in July and has hosted it regularly since September, with guest presenters including James Marriott, John Burn-Murdoch and Sophia Smith Galer covering parts of the summer. The BBC formally relaunched the podcast on Wednesday 14 October, and the first episode of the new run, with the activist and author Naomi Klein, followed on Thursday 15 October.
New episodes come out every Thursday on BBC Sounds and other podcast apps, with a bonus Your Radical Questions episode on Mondays. It is also on BBC Radio 4 each week and as video on the BBC News YouTube channel, ATV Today reported.
What is Amol Rajan’s new podcast?
Amol Rajan’s new podcast is The Amol Rajan Connection, a twice-weekly video podcast at the centre of the members’ club he launched on 22 September 2026.
Guests so far include former England manager Gareth Southgate, who came back for a follow-up Q&A with viewers’ questions, and Delia Smith. The YouTube channel also carries shorter explainers between the long interviews.
The shows are free. Membership, from £5.99 a month up to a £999 lifetime tier, adds extras on top, and our guide to Amol Rajan Connection membership prices goes through each tier.
Where can you listen to the Amol Rajan Connection?
The Amol Rajan Connection is free on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Global Player.
Search for The Amol Rajan Connection in your podcast app, or go straight to the YouTube channel, Apple Podcasts or Global Player.
Can you still listen to Amol Rajan’s Radical episodes?
Yes. Rajan’s episodes are still in the Radical podcast feed, which has run since September 2023 and now holds 250 episodes. It is on BBC Sounds and podcast apps.
The feed has been renamed, so search for Radical with Gabriel Gatehouse rather than Radical with Amol Rajan. His best-of from 16 July is a good place to start.
Is Amol Rajan still at the BBC?
Yes. Amol Rajan still hosts University Challenge on BBC Two, which he took over from Jeremy Paxman in 2023. He left Radio 4’s Today programme after his final show on 2 September 2026.
He was also a contestant on this autumn’s The Celebrity Traitors on BBC One, where he was the first celebrity to be murdered, in episode two. Our Celebrity Traitors guide has the rest of the series.
