Karen Hauer leaves Strictly Come Dancing after 14 years on the show
Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Karen Hauer has announced she is leaving the show after 14 years.
The Venezuela-born dancer confirmed her departure on Saturday, saying it was “the right time to close this chapter and take on new projects in other areas I’m passionate about”.
Hauer shared the news in a video posted to her Instagram account, where she reflected on her time on the programme.
“Strictly completely changed my life, not only as a performer and a teacher but as a human being,” she said.
She added that she had the privilege of meeting many people during her time on the show, including celebrity partners who became close friends.
Hauer also thanked fans who had supported her throughout her journey, as well as members of the Strictly team.
She praised the show’s crew, including the welfare team, for the support they provided behind the scenes.
Reflecting on her early days on the programme, she said she would never forget joining 14 years ago alongside Sir Bruce Forsyth and Len Goodman.
She also addressed former co-hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, who stepped down last year, suggesting they might now have more time to meet outside the show.
In a light-hearted remark, Hauer said she would even miss standing in front of the judges.
“Smiling politely while sometimes secretly disagreeing,” she said.
The dancer became emotional as she spoke about her journey, noting how she had become the longest-serving female professional dancer on the show.
“Who would’ve thought that a young girl from the Bronx would end up becoming the longest serving female professional dancer on a British TV institution,” she said.
Sarah James, executive producer of Strictly Come Dancing, paid tribute to Hauer in a statement.
She described Hauer as a key figure in the show’s history, praising her passion, creativity and dedication.
James said Hauer had created some of the programme’s most memorable performances and partnerships during her time on the dancefloor.
She added that Hauer’s professionalism and sense of humour had made a lasting impact on the show.
Hauer’s departure comes ahead of the next series, with the BBC stating that plans for Strictly Come Dancing 2026 will be confirmed in due course.
