Indian woman, believed dead, ‘comes back to life’ just before cremation
In a remarkable turn of events, a 52-year-old Indian woman, Bujji Aamma, who was presumed dead after sustaining severe injuries in a house fire, suddenly revived just moments before her scheduled cremation.
Aamma, from Berhampur, India, had suffered extensive burns in the fire on February 1 and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to save her, her condition deteriorated after being discharged, leading to her family believing she had passed away a few days later at home.
Her husband, Sibaram Palo, made arrangements for her cremation and a hearse was called to transport her body to the crematorium. However, just as the final rites were about to begin, a local accompanying Aamma noticed that she had opened her eyes, startling everyone present.
“We thought she was dead and informed others in the locality to arrange a hearse van to carry the body to the cremation ground,” said Palo, explaining the confusion surrounding Aamma’s condition.
The hearse driver, who had picked up Aamma’s body, was called back, and she was taken back home in the same vehicle. According to local customs, a death certificate is not required for performing last rites, leading to the misunderstanding in this case.
This incident is reminiscent of a similar case from last year in Brazil, where a 90-year-old woman was declared dead but was later found to be alive in a body bag. Despite being rushed back to the hospital, she passed away shortly afterward.
The circumstances surrounding Aamma’s revival remain a mystery, highlighting the complexities of life and death and the importance of thorough medical examinations
