Celebrities gathered at Centre Court as Wimbledon 2026 opened with a host of famous faces in attendance
The opening day of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships attracted a host of high-profile guests, with sporting legends, television personalities and music stars filling the prestigious Royal Box at Centre Court.
As the tournament got underway at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, spectators were treated to a star-studded line-up of celebrity attendees alongside an exciting schedule of matches featuring some of the biggest names in world tennis.
Among the most recognisable faces was David Beckham, who attended the Championships alongside his mother, Sandra Beckham. The former England captain was among the first celebrities to arrive as crowds gathered for the opening day’s action.
The Centre Court schedule featured reigning men’s singles champion Jannik Sinner taking on Miomir Kecmanović, while women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka faced Teodora Kostović. Later in the day, Novak Djokovic met Wu Yibing in another highly anticipated contest.
Television presenter Tess Daly also attended Centre Court with her close friend and business partner Gayle Lawton. Daly was among several familiar television personalities enjoying the opening day of the Championships.
The Royal Box also welcomed Cliff Richard, who has long been associated with Wimbledon after memorable appearances at the tournament over the years.
Celebrated television cook Mary Berry, actor Mark Rylance, singer Niall Horan and classical vocalist Katherine Jenkins were also among the distinguished guests watching the action unfold from Centre Court.
Former BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, who departed the broadcaster earlier this year after nearly three decades, was another notable attendee enjoying the opening day atmosphere.
Wimbledon’s Royal Box remains one of the most sought-after invitations in British sport, regularly hosting members of the Royal Family, sporting icons, entertainers and distinguished public figures throughout the two-week tournament.
The combination of world-class tennis and celebrity appearances once again created a vibrant atmosphere at SW19 as fans watched elite players compete while famous guests enjoyed the opening matches from Centre Court.
With the Championships only just beginning, many more high-profile visitors are expected to take their seats in the Royal Box over the coming fortnight as Wimbledon continues to attract leading names from sport, entertainment and public life.
