Patrick Clancy of Dexbury aims to honour his late children and raise funds for Boston Children’s Hospital through the Marathon event

Patrick Clancy, a Massachusetts father who tragically lost his three children in January 2023, will be running the Boston Marathon to honour their memory and raise funds for Boston Children’s Hospital. This hospital holds a special significance for Clancy, as it is where his youngest child, Callan, spent his final moments.

In a heartfelt tribute on the hospital’s website, Clancy expressed the deep love and pride he held for his children, Cora, Dawson, and Callan. “My kids brought me so much joy and couldn’t have made their dad prouder,” he shared. Overwhelmed by his loss, Clancy has found a purpose in striving to bring about positive change in the memory of his children. “It goes without saying that losing them has been devastating… I’ve committed myself to honoring their memory,” he stated.

Cora, aged 5, Dawson, aged 3, and seven-month-old Callan were allegedly killed by their mother, Lindsay Clancy, who is reported to have been suffering from postpartum depression or psychosis. The tragic event unfolded at their home when she allegedly strangled them before attempting to take her own life.

In preparation for the marathon, Clancy has raised $48,310 towards a $50,000 goal, intending to give back to the institution that cared for his son in his final days. He plans to run while wearing a bracelet labelled “Happy Callan” and carrying a resin of his children’s handprints, keeping their memory close as he tackles the 26.2-mile course.

Clancy’s personal reflections reveal the unique qualities of each child. Cora is remembered for her nurturing spirit, often stating she wished to be a “doctor and a mama.” Dawson is fondly recalled as a friendly toddler with a love for fire trucks and the TV show “Paw Patrol.” Callan, the youngest, is described as a “happy baby,” whose laughter is deeply missed by his father.

As he prepares to run through the streets of Boston, Clancy’s effort is not just a race but a public gesture of remembrance and resilience. The funds raised will contribute to Boston Children’s Hospital, supporting other families and children in crisis, thus extending the legacy of his own children in a meaningful way.

This poignant act of remembrance by Patrick Clancy highlights a father’s love and his determination to turn a personal tragedy into an opportunity to help others, embodying the spirit of community and support that defines the best of humanity.
