Olly Alexander joins the cast of EastEnders for a special Eurovision episode, stirring excitement in Walford with his cameo

EastEnders is set to dazzle viewers with a special Eurovision-themed episode featuring Olly Alexander, the frontman of Years & Years, who is also representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest this year. His anticipated appearance in the iconic Queen Vic pub promises to bring a wave of excitement to Walford, aligning with the celebratory spirit of Eurovision.

Scheduled to air on Thursday, May 2, Alexander’s cameo in EastEnders includes scenes where he rehearses for his Eurovision performance, enjoys a drink with his old friend Johnny Carter, and interacts with enthusiastic Eurovision super-fans in the pub. The episode will capture the festive atmosphere typical of the international music competition, even inspiring a heartfelt marriage proposal among the residents.

Olly Alexander expressed his delight about his debut on the show, citing a personal connection: “I’m thrilled to be making my first appearance on EastEnders and in the most iconic pub in the UK. I wanted to surprise my mum as it’s her favorite show, but I guess the cat is out of the bag now. She’s going to love it!”

Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders producer, shared that the inclusion of Alexander was sparked by discovering the singer’s fondness for the show. “When we found out Olly Alexander was a huge fan of EastEnders and an opportunity arose in one of our stories, it was the perfect moment for us to invite him to Albert Square,” he explained. This special episode is anticipated to be a memorable highlight for both the cast and the viewers.

Further building anticipation for his Eurovision performance, Alexander will be performing the track ‘Dizzy’ in Malmö, Sweden, on Saturday, May 11. He described the song as a vibrant and emotional expression, saying, “I wrote the song last summer… it’s about feeling such an intense swell of emotion for someone that they totally turn your world upside down and inside out.”

EastEnders has a history of incorporating Eurovision elements into the show, reflecting the UK’s enthusiasm for the event. Last year, the soap celebrated the UK’s strong performance in the contest with a cameo by Cheryl Baker, a former Eurovision winner with Bucks Fizz.

As EastEnders continues to blend drama with topical cultural events, fans can look forward to this special episode that brings a slice of Eurovision to Walford, airing on weekdays at 7:30 PM on BBC One and streaming early on BBC iPlayer.
