Check out the scene from today’s tube ride in London! If you happened to hop on the Underground this afternoon, you might have spotted something unexpected—hundreds of folks cruising around in their underwear!
Yep, it’s the annual ‘No Trousers Tube Ride’ hitting the streets of London yet again. This quirky tradition has been a thing in the city since 2009 (excluding the lockdown period, of course), inspired by a similar event in New York called the ‘No Pants Subway Ride’ by the group Improv Everywhere back in 2002.
Londoners kicked it up a notch, showing up fully dressed and then casually stripping down to their undies while riding the tube, shocking fellow passengers left and right. But here’s the twist: despite the near-nudity, the aim is to act as nonchalant as possible about the whole affair.
There are some ground rules for participants though—no tiny undies, thongs, or see-through gear allowed. After all, Sunday afternoon tube rides can only handle so much!

The whole shebang was initially organised by The Stiff Upper Lip Society until 2023, when they passed the torch to Dave Selkirk, a former member. According to Dave, it’s all about having a blast and letting loose in a world filled with seriousness. He took the reins this year, ensuring the event went ahead despite the previous organisers bowing out.
Participants gathered at Newport Place before 3 pm, went underground, dropped their trousers, and rode the tube like it was just another day. Pictures flooded in, capturing the surreal sight of folks in their winter gear on top and skivvies below, braving the chilly temps.
Opinions on this cheeky affair are divided—some think it’s past its prime, while others see it as harmless fun, likening it to a day at the beach. There are even comparisons to London’s nude cycle ride!
Whether you’re a fan or not, one thing’s for sure—the No Trousers Tube Ride was a hit this year. Will it make a comeback in 2025? Only time will tell!
