Amazon founder discusses zero gravity experience and reflects on environmental impact

In a recent interview on the Lex Fridman podcast, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and CEO of Blue Origin, shared his experiences of floating in zero gravity during a Blue Origin spaceflight. Bezos, who has expressed his commitment to advancing space exploration through Blue Origin, revealed that the sensation of weightlessness felt “very natural” and compared it to a return to the womb.

During the podcast, Bezos described the absence of nervousness during the flight, emphasizing the laughter shared among the passengers inside the capsule. Reflecting on the impact of the experience, he stated, “It was an incredible experience, and we were not nervous.”

Addressing the philosophical impact of viewing Earth from space, Bezos noted that witnessing the fragility of the planet would make anyone an environmentalist. He expressed a deep sense of concern for the Earth’s well-being, emphasizing the need for environmental awareness.

Having shifted his focus from Amazon to Blue Origin, Bezos discussed his vision for humanity’s future in space. Unlike Elon Musk’s goal of a human expedition to Mars, Bezos envisions large, self-sustaining space stations known as “hive ships.” According to Bezos, these giant space stations are essential for achieving the desired vision, as planetary surfaces are considered too small unless transformed into massive space stations.

As space exploration initiatives continue to evolve, Bezos and Blue Origin aim to contribute to the advancement of human presence in space and explore sustainable living beyond Earth.
