In an unusual twist, former Eagles centre Jason Kelce has permanently lost his Super Bowl ring during a chili-filled stunt at a podcast event

Jason Kelce, the former centre for the Philadelphia Eagles, faced an unexpected loss during a quirky event designed to playfully highlight his propensity for misplacing his 2018 Super Bowl ring. The incident, revealed during Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights podcast, has left fans both amused and sympathetic.

Last Thursday, at the University of Cincinnati, the podcast hosted an event aptly named “Jason Lost His Ring.” The activity involved two inflatable pools filled with chilli, where participants, including Kelce, searched for his Super Bowl ring amid several decoys. Unfortunately, the real ring remained undiscovered even after extensive searches with a metal detector.

Kelce shared his disbelief about the ring’s disappearance with listeners, indicating that all materials, including the chilli, have since been discarded. “It looks like my Super Bowl ring is now somewhere in a landfill in the Cincinnati tri-state area,” he remarked, resigned to the loss of this valuable memento.

The ring, a symbol of the Eagles’ Super Bowl LII victory, is no ordinary piece. Crafted by Jostens, it features 10-karat white gold adorned with 219 diamonds and 17 rare green sapphires. The Eagles logo alone contains 52 diamonds, representing the team’s win at Super Bowl 52. Additionally, the Lombardi Trophy depicted on the ring is surrounded by 16 diamonds to signify the 16 victories leading to their championship.

Further distinguishing this ring, the inner band showcases engraved signatures of the Eagles players, a first in Super Bowl ring design. Such intricate details underscore the ring’s sentimental and financial value, now presumed lost forever.

Despite the unfortunate outcome, Kelce has maintained a good-natured perspective on the incident. He has since filed an insurance claim for the lost ring, hoping to at least recover some of its material value.

As Kelce and his fans come to terms with the bizarre fate of his Super Bowl ring, the incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of public stunts and the permanent consequences they can sometimes entail. The event, intended as a light-hearted challenge, has become a notable anecdote in Super Bowl lore, emphasizing the need for caution even in the most jovial activities.
