Union Minister Kiren Rijiju criticizes China’s actions, asserts India’s sovereignty and development progress

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday fiercely criticized China for renaming 30 places in Arunachal Pradesh, signalling India’s robust stance against such moves. He highlighted that China’s actions stem from nervousness over India’s accelerated infrastructure development in the border areas. “This India is not the India of 1962,” Rijiju declared, emphasizing the nation’s unwavering response to external disturbances.

China recently released a list of “standardized” geographical names for 30 locations in Arunachal Pradesh, a region it refers to as Zangnan. This marks the fourth instance of China attempting to rename places in the northeastern state, an action India vehemently opposes. Rijiju’s statements come in the wake of these developments, underscoring India’s rejection of China’s claims and unilateral naming efforts.

Rijiju pointed out the significant advancements in infrastructure within border regions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, contrasting it with the previous neglect. The construction of major highways, roads, bridges, and the extension of basic amenities like 4G networks, water, and electricity highlights India’s commitment to developing these strategic areas. These efforts, according to Rijiju, are the root of China’s discomfort and the reason behind its recent provocative actions.

The minister also touched upon India’s policy of not creating problems for other countries but responding appropriately to any disturbances. This principle guides India’s approach to its relations with China, ensuring that sovereignty and territorial integrity remain non-negotiable.
