Grim nightclub retribution: Footballer’s fatal stabbing unravels in ‘planned slaughter’ over ‘unavoidable’ encounter

In a chilling turn of events, a young footballer, Cody Fisher, found himself at the centre of a planned act of revenge that ultimately led to his untimely demise. The 23-year-old had a fateful encounter on Christmas Eve, 2022, in a crowded bar when he inadvertently nudged into Remy Gordon’s back while exiting with friends.

Birmingham Crown Court unfolded the dramatic narrative, revealing that Gordon, feeling slighted by this seemingly minor incident, orchestrated a dark plot of “awful revenge.” Allegedly seeking assistance on Snapchat to identify Cody, Gordon ominously threatened to “shank him up.”

The tension escalated, and on Boxing Day, Gordon, accompanied by co-accused Kami Carpenter, 22, and 19-year-old Reegan Anderson, went to the Crane nightclub. In a brutal and tragic turn of events, Cody was fatally stabbed in the chest, puncturing his heart, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A close friend who was with him narrowly escaped being chased and kicked.

Prosecutor Michael Duck KC asserted that this was not a random act of violence but a joint and planned attack, describing it as an act of retribution. The court heard that the initial “minor falling out” between Cody and Gordon occurred just 48 hours before the fatal incident at the Popworld club in Solihull.

During that night, Cody and his friend were making their way through a packed crowd towards the exit when the brief contact with Gordon took place. Duck explained, “Cody Fisher it seems did little more than touch Remy Gordon’s back. Remy Gordon was looking for an argument with somebody.”

Gordon, feeling embarrassed and frustrated by his inability to intimidate Cody, harboured a deep resentment that eventually escalated into a tragic loss of life. The defendants, Gordon, Carpenter, and Anderson, deny charges of murder and affray. Cody, a former Birmingham City academy member who also played for Stratford Town and Bromsgrove Sporting, leaves a community in shock as the trial continues.
