A tragic case of neglect and alleged abuse has shocked the community of Daytona Beach, Florida, as Talia Nelson, 43, faces severe charges following the death of her 14-year-old son, Zayke Smith-Nelson. The boy was found dead, weighing only 33 pounds (2 stone 3), revealing a disturbing case of alleged neglect and starvation.

The investigation, conducted by the Daytona Beach police, uncovered harrowing details of neglect and abuse leading to Zayke’s untimely death. Nelson reportedly failed to seek medical help for her son, acknowledging that she had “dropped the ball” in caring for him.

Nelson now stands accused of first-degree felony murder, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and aggravated child abuse. The arrest came after authorities responded to a call reporting an unconscious person at Nelson’s residence on Carolina Lake Drive.

Upon arrival, police discovered Zayke unresponsive, with visible signs of severe malnutrition and extensive bedsores. Despite efforts to save him, the teenager tragically succumbed to his injuries at Halifax Health Medical Center.
