Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has officially renewed her contract, securing her role as Cassie Plummer for another year. Sweeney, who joined the cast last year as Tyrone Dobbs’s mother and Evelyn’s daughter, has quickly become a favourite on the show, captivating audiences with her intricate portrayal of Cassie.

In a recent interview with Cheshire Life, Sweeney expressed her enthusiasm about continuing her journey on the iconic soap. “I’ve just signed my contract for another year in Corrie and I’m really happy to fully invest all my time and energy into Cassie and see what develops,” she stated. This news comes as a delight to fans who have embraced her character’s complex backstory and dynamic presence in Weatherfield.

Sweeney’s performances, particularly those alongside seasoned actors like Dame Maureen Lipman and Alan Halsall, have been highlights of recent episodes. Reflecting on her experiences, Sweeney shared, “When I first came into Corrie, I did a 14-page scene with Maureen while my character was in hospital. Playing opposite such a phenomenal actor was a dream come true.”
