Following in his father’s legendary footsteps, Charlie Woods sets his sights on the US Open, starting with local qualifiers in Florida

Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, is stepping up to make his mark in golf by attempting to qualify for the US Open. This Thursday, he will compete at The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, among an 84-player field aiming for a spot in one of golf’s most prestigious events.

This local qualifier is just the beginning for those hoping to reach the 124th US Open, with only the top five finishers moving on to the final qualifying rounds. Known as ‘Golf’s Longest Day,’ these 36-hole events will take place across various US and international venues in the upcoming months.

Charlie has previously shown his golfing prowess while playing alongside his father in four PNC Championships. His journey into more competitive golf began this February at a pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic. Despite the pressures of a large audience and high expectations, Charlie faced challenges but gained valuable experience.

The young golfer is one of over 10,000 entrants for this year’s US Open qualifiers, a diverse group ranging from a 12-year-old hopeful to a seasoned 74-year-old veteran, reflecting the wide appeal and inclusivity of the sport.

Tiger Woods, a 15-time major champion, has had a profound impact on golf, and now his son seems poised to follow in his footsteps. Despite Tiger’s recent physical setbacks, including recovery from surgery and a car crash, he continues to compete, recently making his 24th consecutive cut at The Masters.

As Charlie Woods embarks on his quest, the golf world watches eagerly to see if he can advance through the gruelling qualifying process and perhaps join the elite at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina this June. This event will not only test his skills but also offer him a chance to continue building his legacy in the shadow of his father’s storied career
