Viral video captures audacious robbery, culprit arrested by authorities

In a daring daylight robbery, a man brazenly pilfers $49,230 worth of iPhones from an Apple Store, sending shockwaves across social media platforms.

Footage of the audacious theft, captured on Monday near Oakland, California, swiftly went viral, showcasing the thief’s bold actions as he swiftly pockets iPhones on display before making a hasty exit from the store.

The viral video circulated widely online, elicited a mix of reactions from viewers, with many expressing disbelief at the thief’s audacity, particularly his apparent obliviousness to a nearby police car.

However, some astute observers pointed out a crucial flaw in the thief’s plan, noting that the stolen iPhones were likely display models without access to mobile networks, rendering them unusable outside the store premises.

Amidst public scrutiny, law enforcement agencies swiftly sprung into action, collaborating to apprehend the perpetrator and his accomplices. Berkeley Police Department, Emeryville Police Department, and California Highway Patrol joined forces, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including 22-year-old Tyler Mims from Berkeley.

Mims faces multiple charges, including grand theft, organised retail theft, burglary, and conspiracy to commit a crime, underscoring the seriousness of the offence.

Authorities confirmed that the stolen merchandise amounted to $49,230, marking just one in a series of thefts targeting Apple Stores in the region since the start of the year.

The Emeryville Police Department clarified that the police car featured in the viral video was unoccupied, serving as a decoy deterrent, with no officers present nearby during the incident.
