A stylish couple, Ashley Singh, 39, and Sophie Bruyea, 20, showcased their extravagant life on social media after pilfering £250,000 from gym-goers’ lockers. The ill-gotten gains funded luxury holidays in Dubai and the Amalfi Coast, along with purchases of a high-end puppy and designer clothing.

Their year-long spree targeted gyms across London and the South-East, where they rifled through lockers, leaving 18 victims grappling with financial stress as their accounts were emptied. Convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation between January 2022 and January 2023, Singh received a three-year sentence, while Bruyea got a 20-month term suspended for two years.

Met Police confirmed the couple preyed on unsuspecting victims during their gym sessions, proceeding to indulge in unabashed shopping sprees for tech and designer clothes, including from stores like Prada.

Singh and Bruyea unabashedly flaunted their wealth on social media, sharing glimpses of luxurious holidays, such as stays at Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, and posing beside flashy cars. Bruyea even documented her opulent lifestyle in TikTok videos.

Meanwhile, the victims, spanning London, Sussex, Hertfordshire, and Cambridgeshire, faced immense stress as their accounts were drained. The crime wave ended when a vigilant police officer discerned a pattern, leading the Met Police to trace the couple through phones, cars, and CCTV footage.

Arrested at Gatwick upon their return from Paris with 2,000 Euros worth of designer goods, Singh and Bruyea’s audacious criminal spree left a trail of devastation. The Met Police expressed sympathy for the victims and emphasised their commitment to addressing theft-related crimes, urging others who experienced theft to come forward.

The police stated, “We know Londoners are worried about theft. It’s a horrible crime, and it causes a lot of stress, pain, and financial loss. That’s why we take this crime seriously, and a whole team of us were committed to catching Singh and Bruyea.” The authorities plan to pursue the forfeiture of the criminals’ proceeds to aid in compensating the victims of their callous actions.
