Olivia Munn reveals she was offered a 7-figure payout to stay silent about a traumatic on-set experience.

Olivia Munn is pulling back the curtain on a shocking behind-the-scenes ordeal—one she was offered a fortune to keep quiet about.

In a candid conversation on Monica Lewinsky’s Reclaiming podcast, the Newsroom actress, 44, revealed that after a traumatic experience on a film set, she was presented with a seven-figure settlement—on the condition that she sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

“I had to file complaints with the studio, and there’s a lot of other little things that go along with it, but it got to this place where I was offered a lot of money,” Munn shared. “Seven figures to accept, I guess, their apology and them taking acknowledgement of it. But it came along with an NDA.”

Despite the substantial sum, Munn turned down the offer, refusing to be silenced. Yet she also admitted she never seriously considered speaking out at the time, choosing instead to move forward privately.

A Hollywood Reckoning & Fear of Backlash

Munn’s ordeal unfolded during the height of the Me Too movement in 2017, as Hollywood reckoned with the widespread abuse of power in the industry. However, she feared that if she accepted the money, people would dismiss her experience, accusing her of staying silent “for the money.”

“This was like the reckoning, the Harvey Weinstein reckoning that began it all,” she explained. “This was that time period, and this was when people were targeting anyone who signed an NDA saying, ‘Oh, you only did it for the money.’ So I was afraid that my voice and speaking up would just reverse any kind of validity to my voice.”

She also suspected the studio would leak details of the NDA to control the narrative.

“I was worried they would use it to diminish what had happened,” she said.

Why She Walked Away from the Money

After consulting her lawyers, Munn stood firm in her decision to reject the payout, calling the offer “disrespectful.”

“That comes into the feistiness of not thinking things through and being so upset and frustrated that this would be the offer to me,” she said. “I did not think about negotiating. I did not think about anything besides how disrespectful that was.”

Munn left the meeting proud of her choice, even though she knew it came with risks.

At the time, she was working on several projects, including the 2018 film The Predator. While she did not name the movie involved in the settlement offer, People Magazine noted that her career intersected with the Me Too movement around that period.
