After securing his fifth Rolex Series title, Tyrrell Hatton is now set to target a major victory, with Dame Laura Davies backing him to contend at the masters

Tyrrell Hatton’s impressive form shone through with a thrilling victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, securing his fifth Rolex Series title by a single shot over New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier. This Tyrrell Hatton Dubai Victory, his first Rolex Series win since 2021, is a major milestone as the English golfer gains momentum for the 2025 season.

Dame Laura Davies, speaking after Hatton’s triumph, believes the 33-year-old is now primed to break through and claim a major this year. “He’s got his game in the right place. The next step is a major. Is he ready to win a major? Absolutely,” Davies told Sky Sports Golf.

Hatton’s performance, particularly his driving, has caught the eye of golf experts, with Davies pointing to Augusta National as a course that could suit his game. “The way he’s driving it, you have to think it will suit him because he hits it both ways if he wants to,” she said, referencing The Masters in April.

Hatton is yet to seriously contend at a major, but his recent strong performances, including a win at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and a solid finish to the 2024 season on the LIV circuit, have put him in the conversation for a breakthrough victory.

As Hatton focuses on the four majors this year, the Ryder Cup also remains a key target. With an undefeated record in the 2023 Ryder Cup, where he contributed 3.5 points to Team Europe, Hatton is expected to be a crucial part of the squad in 2025. He is aiming to secure automatic qualification through the Ryder Cup Points List, which will run throughout the season until the event in September.

“This event and the four majors this year are massive for me to try and earn as many points as I can to try and be an automatic qualifier,” Hatton said, expressing his commitment to qualifying for the prestigious team event.
