David Hollick convicted following tragic death of six-month-old Kairo Hollick

In a heartbreaking verdict, David Hollick, 29, has been declared guilty of manslaughter after the tragic death of his six-month-old son, Kairo Hollick. The devastating incident unfolded on February 12, 2020, when young Kairo passed away in the arms of his mother at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Hollick’s journey to conviction began when he rushed Kairo to Walsall Manor Hospital in the early hours of February 9, 2020, claiming to have found the infant “floppy and not breathing.” However, the subsequent medical examination revealed distressing details that painted a grim picture of the events leading to Kairo’s demise.

Upon examination, doctors identified a severe bleed on Kairo’s brain, prompting his transfer to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment. Tragically, medical professionals uncovered the extent of Kairo’s injuries, concluding that they were unsurvivable. The heartbreaking decision to terminate life support was made, marking the end of young Kairo’s brief life.

A post-mortem examination revealed the harrowing truth behind Kairo’s injuries: two complex skull fractures resulting in catastrophic brain injury. Additional fractures, including one to his arm, were attributed to blunt force trauma. Despite Hollick’s refusal to provide an explanation for Kairo’s injuries, denying any criminal involvement, a three-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court culminated in his guilty verdict.

The devastating loss of Kairo has left a permanent scar on his family, with his mother expressing profound grief and devastation at the senseless tragedy. She spoke of Kairo’s innocence and the anguish of losing him under such horrific circumstances, emphasizing the enduring pain felt by the family. Despite the passage of time, the wounds remain fresh, and closure remains elusive.

As the family grapples with their grief, they extend gratitude to the medical staff for their compassionate care and to the investigative team for their unwavering support throughout the ordeal. Chief Inspector Laura Harrison echoed sentiments of sympathy, emphasizing the incomprehensible nature of Kairo’s death and expressing solidarity with his grieving family.

David Hollick’s sentencing, scheduled for early March, marks the culmination of a tragic chapter in the Hollick family’s life, leaving behind profound sorrow and unanswered questions.
