Brother reveals ‘Simple’ fatal mistake leading to Daredevil’s tragic parachute jump death

The brother of a British base jumper who met a tragic end in Thailand has disclosed the unfortunate mistake that led to the fatal accident. Daredevil Nathy Odinson, aged 33, took an illegal climb to the top of a 29-story building in the coastal resort of Pattaya on a Saturday to perform a daring stunt that ultimately proved fatal.

A chilling video captures Nathy, hailing from Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, counting down, “three, two, one, see ya,” before making an unwitting leap to his demise.

His brother, Ed Harrison, revealed that the footage shows a crucial error: Nathy’s mini pilot parachute became entangled in his harness, rendering it impossible to deploy. Ed, aged 39, from St Neots, explained that his brother, despite having significant experience with “5,000 jumps around the world,” made a “simple” but fatal mistake “without realising.”

Speaking to The Sun, Ed expressed, “He will be missed by so many… He was fun-loving and joyful and great with kids. He was a hero to my three.”

In the video, Nathy can be heard landing in a tree before hitting the ground. A 33-year-old security guard, Kanet Chansong, who witnessed the incident, recounted, “I heard the sound of the tree, and I thought it was a fallen branch hitting the ground. A woman screamed, so I walked over and realised it was a person. They were dead. I saw that they had jumped from the building.”

Chansong added that Daredevil Nathy had jumped from the building on several occasions, posing a risk to pedestrians below. He also noted that they were creating content for social media, despite knowing it was not allowed.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene just after 7:30 PM local time, but Nathy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police lieutenant Kamolporn Nadee stated, “The parachute that the deceased used to jump malfunctioned and was not centred as expected. He was in a terrible state when we arrived. The friend who recorded the video of him jumping was questioned, and the video was examined as evidence. Forensics officers are investigating the case further, including examining the parachute.”

The British Embassy in Bangkok is in contact with Nathy’s relatives in the UK.

Nathy operated a ‘sky photography’ company, conducting skydives and base jumps worldwide and offering private skydiving experiences to customers.
