Maddy’s desperate gamble fails, Rue uncovers a nightmare, and Nate meets a brutal end

Euphoria has never shied away from chaos, but season three’s penultimate episode pushes the series into darker territory than ever before.

Euphoria episode seven, titled “Rain or Shine,” turns personal destruction into full-scale catastrophe. Loyalties collapse, secrets spill into deadly hands and several central characters find themselves trapped in situations spiralling far beyond their control.

At the centre of the fallout sits Rue, whose renewed religious conviction grows increasingly alarming.

While confiding in Ali, Rue clings to the belief that divine signs are guiding her path. She talks about visions, sacred meaning and an impending DEA arrest she believes is connected to a higher purpose. Ali, however, refuses to indulge the fantasy.

He urges her to stop searching for cosmic validation and confront the damage in front of her. If she truly wants redemption, he argues, she must begin by changing herself.

Yet Rue’s situation only becomes more dangerous.

Tasked with robbing Laurie’s safe for Alamo while navigating a looming DEA operation, she finds herself completely outmatched by the criminal world closing around her. Matters worsen when she recklessly tells Lexi she is secretly working as a DEA informant.

Lexi assumes Rue is delusional. She passes the information to Maddy. Maddy, disastrously unaware of the stakes, shares it with Alamo. That single conversation effectively confirms Alamo’s suspicions that Rue cannot be trusted.

Meanwhile, Maddy and Cassie’s lives continue to unravel.

Both women face rejection from the entertainment industry because of links to the sex trade. Financial pressure intensifies. Cassie, already vulnerable after deleting her OnlyFans account, struggles as threats against Nate escalate.

Naz’s demands grow increasingly violent, spilling beyond Nate and reaching Cassie herself. The message is simple: produce the money or face the consequences.

Nate’s survival depends on that payment.

Buried alive beneath a planned retirement development, he has only hours remaining. For Maddy, desperation overrides judgement. Determined to rescue both Nate and Cassie, she approaches Alamo seeking financial help.

What follows is deeply unsettling.

Alamo manipulates the conversation, drawing Maddy into an uncomfortable power imbalance during a private meeting. During the exchange, Maddy reveals Rue’s mention of the DEA, unknowingly tightening the net around her former friend. The aftermath suggests exploitation, while also making clear that Maddy has crossed a dangerous line to secure the money she believes will save everyone.

But the rescue plan collapses.

At the arranged handover site above Nate’s hidden coffin, Alamo deceives Naz using an empty money bag before fatally shooting him. He then informs Maddy and Cassie that they are now financially tied to him.

The revelation lands like a death sentence.

When Nate’s coffin is finally unearthed, hope evaporates. Inside lies Nate’s decomposing body. A rattlesnake bite has already sealed his fate. The frantic bargaining, manipulation and moral compromise achieved nothing.

Elsewhere, Rue finally opens the safe she risked everything to reach.

With help from Faye, she expects money. Instead, she uncovers something far more disturbing photographs and identification documents connected to Alamo’s club girls.

The discovery points towards a wider network of exploitation, with the material seemingly held as leverage. Suddenly, Rue grasps the true scale of the nightmare surrounding her.

Even then, danger refuses to loosen its grip.

Faye, furious that the safe contains no cash, turns on Rue and screams to wake her boyfriend.

By the episode’s close, Rue, Maddy and Cassie appear trapped inside a brutal system of violence, manipulation and betrayal.

With the season finale approaching, Euphoria leaves viewers facing a bleak question: can redemption still exist in a world where every escape route leads deeper into the snake pit?
