In a shocking turn of events, 23-year-old Alice Wood is accused of intentionally using her car to run over and kill her boyfriend, 24-year-old Ryan Watson, following a heated argument at a party. The incident, described as a “game of chicken,” unfolded after the couple left a gathering in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

Chester Crown Court heard that the tragic episode occurred on May 6, 2022, after the pair had attended a party organized by a user of the Headway brain injury charity. Witnesses stated that Ryan, a support worker for the organization, was enjoying the event, while Wood appeared displeased. One guest even reported feeling “glared at” by Wood during the party.

The fatal confrontation took place after the couple left the gathering, with Wood driving her boyfriend’s Fiat. Upon parking, she allegedly reversed the vehicle dangerously close to Ryan. The situation escalated as Wood reportedly drove backward and forward, eventually hitting her boyfriend intentionally.

Ryan Watson suffered catastrophic injuries as he was pulled under the car’s chassis, trapped for almost 160 meters. Nearby witnesses reported hearing a “life-threatening” scream during the incident. Wood, upon stopping the vehicle, approached a nearby homeowner and requested an ambulance, confessing, “I think I’ve run over my boyfriend.”

Upon arrest on suspicion of murder, Alice Wood allegedly told an officer, “It’s fine, I deserve it.” The court learned that she had 61 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35.

Prosecutor Andrew Ford stated, “She lost her temper, had an argument with her boyfriend when they were drunk, in a motorcar. Things became fraught, he got out, kicked a door, and she lost her cool and used the car as a weapon.” The trial is ongoing, and Wood faces murder charges in connection with the tragic incident.
