Vodafone announces mid-contract price hikes for thousands of customers starting in April 2025.

Vodafone has confirmed that it will be increasing monthly prices for thousands of broadband and mobile customers starting from April 1, 2025. The price hikes are part of the company’s annual mid-contract increases, affecting a wide range of customers based on when they signed up or upgraded their contracts.

For those who signed up for or upgraded their Vodafone broadband contract on or after July 2, 2024, the price increases will be fixed at £1 extra per month for ‘basic’ mobile plans, £1.80 extra per month for other pay-monthly mobile plans, and £3 extra per month for home broadband services.

However, customers who took out a Vodafone broadband contract or upgrade on or before July 1, 2024, will face a more substantial price rise. Their bills will increase by 6.4%—reflecting December’s 2.5% Consumer Price Index (CPI) figure plus an additional 3.9 percentage points.

Not all customers will see their bills go up. Those on Vodafone’s Broadband Essentials, Mobile VOXI For Now, or Mobile pay-as-you-go plans are exempt from these price hikes.

Alongside the monthly subscription increases, Vodafone has also announced that charges for exceeding monthly usage allowances will rise. Starting in April, out-of-bundle charges will increase by the rate of the CPI for January 2025, plus an additional 3.9%.

This price increase announcement comes amidst the implementation of a new Ofcom ruling aimed at providing greater transparency in how telecoms companies communicate price hikes. According to the new regulations, companies must now display mid-contract price increases in pounds and pence, rather than relying on complex inflation-based rises that often leave customers uncertain about the total amount they would pay.

As part of the ruling, telecoms providers are prohibited from tying price increases to future inflation rates. This ensures that any price hikes are clearer and more predictable for customers. However, companies are still allowed to implement annual price increases, as long as they are specified upfront and are fixed amounts rather than linked to inflation.

The announcement is likely to cause frustration among many Vodafone customers, especially those facing larger hikes, but the company has stated that the changes are necessary to maintain the quality of service it offers.VVodafone price hikes
