Grandmother’s nightmare as young passenger ends up miles away from intended destination

In a shocking incident during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, an airline committed a grave mistake by placing a six-year-old flying alone on the wrong flight. Maria Ramos, the distraught grandmother, shared her horrifying experience as her grandson, Casper, was meant to travel solo from Philadelphia to Southwest Florida Airport but ended up in Orlando, over 130 miles away from his intended destination.

Ramos, expecting her grandson to arrive at Fort Myers, was taken aback when she discovered that Casper never boarded the correct flight bound for Florida, despite his luggage making the journey. Speaking to WINK News, she expressed her disbelief, stating, “They told me, ‘No, he’s not on this flight. He missed his flight.’ I said, ‘No, he could not miss his flight because I have the check-in tag.'”

Frantically seeking answers, Ramos approached the flight attendant, only to be told, “No, I had no kids with me.” It became apparent that the young passenger had been mistakenly directed to Orlando Airport instead.

To rectify the error, Ramos had to embark on a four-hour drive to retrieve her grandson, describing the experience as one of the scariest in her life. While Spirit Airlines has offered to cover the travel expenses, Ramos is demanding a thorough explanation from the airline regarding the baffling mistake.

Expressing her concerns, she said, “I want them to call me. Let me know how my grandson ended up in Orlando. How did that happen? Did they get him off the plane? The flight attendant – after mom handed him with paperwork – did she let him go by himself? He jumped on the wrong plane by himself?”

In response to the incident, Spirit Airlines issued an apology, acknowledging the error occurred during the peak of holiday travel. Michael Lopardi, a spokesperson for Spirit Airlines, stated, “We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all of our Guests seriously and are conducting an internal investigation. We apologize to the family for this experience.”
