Gangland figure Webley gunned down outside Edinburgh pub during Hogmanay celebrations

Mark Webley, a former boyfriend of EuroMillions winner Jane Park, met a tragic end on New Year’s Eve as he was shot dead during Hogmanay celebrations outside the Anchor Inn on Granton Road, Edinburgh. Webley, a well-known gangland figure, was reportedly attacked just before midnight, prompting armed police and paramedics to respond.

Webley, 36, had a history of involvement in criminal activities and had been cleared of two attempted murders last year at the high court in Scotland. His previous convictions included a jail sentence of 11 years for shooting a drugs gang rival. He was also linked to EuroMillions winner Jane Park, who made headlines by winning £1 million at the age of 17.

The incident unfolded amid the Hogmanay festivities, with witnesses describing scenes of chaos. One witness stated, “People were screaming, and all hell let loose. There are rumors four people are involved, but Marc is dead. He had more enemies than Putin.” Gunshots were reported, leading to road closures in the Granton Road and Granton Crescent areas.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed the incident, saying, “Road closures are in place on Granton Road and Granton Crescent following an incident which was reported to police around 11.50 pm on Sunday, December 31. Officers are at the scene, and closures will remain in place while inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.”

Webley’s criminal history included a conviction in 2006 for attempted murder, along with James Tant, targeting gangland rival Peter Simpson. The victim was shot in the back near his home in the Granton area of Edinburgh.

Jane Park, who recently split with Webley, expressed her grief by leaving a single love heart on a photograph of him posted by Webley’s brother on social media. The couple had ended their relationship just three weeks before the tragic incident.

Jane Park, who became a millionaire at 17, has faced public scrutiny for her lavish spending and lifestyle choices. In recent years, she has been open about the downsides of her sudden wealth, including regrets about her cosmetic surgery procedures.

As investigations into Webley’s murder continue, the Edinburgh community remains shaken by the violent events that unfolded during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
