Woman found dead with stab wounds, linked to second fatality at Pangbourne railway station

Pangbourne, Berkshire, 5 January 2024 – A mansion on Pangbourne’s exclusive “Millionaire’s Row” has become the center of a murder investigation after two tragic incidents unfolded on Wednesday, leaving residents in shock. Police have confirmed that a woman found dead with stab wounds in the £2.5 million home is linked to a second fatality at Pangbourne railway station.

The woman, believed to have lived in the luxurious mansion with her adult children, was first struck and killed by a car on the A340 Tidmarsh Road at the junction with Flower’s Hill. The Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit reported that the 56-year-old victim had suffered a fatal stab wound and died at the scene despite receiving medical attention.

Shortly after the road incident, an 18-year-old man was struck by a train at Pangbourne railway station, and he also died at the scene. The police are treating the two deaths as linked, launching a murder investigation.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown, Head of the Major Crime Unit, expressed condolences to the loved ones of both victims and stated, “We are in the very early stages of this complex investigation, but we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with either death. We are still investigating but are treating the two deaths as linked; we are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances of each.”

Despite the tragic events, there is no perceived wider threat to the public, and police are not seeking additional suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

Neighbours on “Millionaire’s Row” expressed shock and horror at the unfolding incidents. One resident described the scene as “horrible” and recounted rushing to help but finding the area already cordoned off by the police. Another neighbor characterized the woman who lived in the mansion as “lovely” and expressed disbelief at the shocking events, describing the police presence as something out of a “horror movie.”
