Anthony Edwards scores 40 points, leading Minnesota to its first playoff series win in 20 years

In a thrilling game, the Minnesota Timberwolves secured a historic series sweep against the Phoenix Suns, winning 122-116 and marking their first playoff series victory in 20 years. Led by a stellar performance from Anthony Edwards, who scored 40 points, the Timberwolves overcame the Suns’ challenge.

Early in the third quarter, Edwards noticed a change in the Suns’ defence, opting to play him one-on-one instead of using double teams. Edwards embraced the challenge, delivering an outstanding performance in the second half.

The game took a somber turn when Timberwolves coach Chris Finch suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee after a collision with guard Mike Conley. Finch left the game late in the fourth quarter and assistant coach Micah Nori took over for the final minutes.

Despite the setback, Edwards led the Timberwolves with an impressive 40-point display, including 31 points in the second half. Karl-Anthony Towns added 28 points, contributing to Minnesota’s victory.

Devin Booker led the Suns with 49 points, making 13 of 21 shots and 20 of 21 free throws. However, the rest of the Suns struggled to keep up with Minnesota’s offense.

Assistant coach Micah Nori praised the team’s resilience, emphasizing the “next man up” mentality even within the coaching staff.

Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels also made significant contributions with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while the team maintained a rebounding advantage.

The Suns fought hard, with Booker scoring 18 points in the third quarter to keep the game close. However, Minnesota’s late-game execution secured the victory.

Now, the Timberwolves await the winner between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the playoffs.
