Out of respect for wildfire-impacted communities, The Weeknd delays concert and album release.
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has postponed his highly anticipated Rose Bowl concert in Pasadena due to the ongoing wildfires devastating Los Angeles County. The concert, originally set for January 25th, has been rescheduled to prioritise the city’s recovery efforts.
The artist announced his decision on Instagram, expressing solidarity with the affected communities. “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am cancelling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th,” he wrote.
Tesfaye added that Los Angeles has always been a source of inspiration for him, stating, “My thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time.”
In addition to delaying the concert, The Weeknd has also pushed the release of his upcoming album to January 31st. He explained that his focus is on supporting the recovery and rebuilding of communities devastated by the fires.
“This city has given me so much, and I want to do everything I can to support its incredible people as they rebuild,” the singer added, concluding his heartfelt message with, “With love, Abel.”
Fans have widely praised the decision, calling it a compassionate gesture during a challenging period for the region. The wildfires have caused widespread destruction, displacing thousands of residents and leaving many without homes.
While fans may be disappointed by the delay, many agree that Tesfaye’s prioritisation of community welfare reflects the deep connection he shares with the city.
