The unprecedented increase in illegal border crossings by Chinese nationals has ignited debates on national security and immigration policies

A dramatic escalation in the number of Chinese nationals illegally entering the United States through the San Diego sector has set a new record, surpassing figures from the previous fiscal year. Data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveal that within just the first six months of fiscal 2024, authorities apprehended 24,296 Chinese nationals, a significant rise from the 24,125 recorded throughout fiscal 2023.

This stark increase represents a more than 6,300% jump compared to the figures from fiscal 2021, highlighting a worrying trend that has caught the attention of U.S. lawmakers and security officials. The surge is primarily composed of single adult males of military age, which adds a layer of complexity to the national security dialogue.
