Allied Gardens neighborhood stunned as police investigate unusual case

In a chilling incident, San Diego police have disclosed the grim discovery of a body found concealed in a freezer within a home located on the 4900 block of Zion Avenue in the residential neighborhood of Allied Gardens. The shocking revelation unfolded last week when an ‘out-of-town’ family, visiting for Christmas, stumbled upon the unsettling scene.

At approximately 11:45 am on Friday, 22nd December, authorities received a distress call from the family members, who uncovered the deceased individual in the unconventional storage unit. Due to the “unusual location” of the body, the Homicide Unit was promptly summoned to investigate the situation.

The identity of the victim, believed to be female, remains shrouded in mystery due to the body’s condition and its confinement within the freezer. No details about potential traumatic injuries suffered before the body’s placement have been disclosed.

Currently, the body is under the jurisdiction of the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, where officials are diligently working to determine the cause of death.

News of this macabre discovery has sent shockwaves through the close-knit Allied Gardens community. Residents expressed their concerns, with one neighbor, Ted Durler, describing the scene: “The house was draped in tape, you know the yellow caution or whatever it is tape, and there were five police cars.”

Austin Cowdrey, another resident, shared his surprise, stating, “Yeah, that’s a little shocking, a little alarming I would say. Stuff like that usually probably wouldn’t happen in a neighborhood like this.” Cowdrey emphasized an increased sense of caution, particularly at night, in response to the unsettling incident.

The San Diego Police Department issued a statement, saying, “Essentially, out-of-town family members were at a residence and located a dead body inside of a chest freezer.” They added, “Detectives are continuing to gather information to understand what happened and why the body was inside the freezer.”
