Two people shot dead in Mornington Peninsula, as manhunt continues for suspect
A suspected gunman remains on the loose after two people were shot dead in a targeted attack at a house in Rye, on the Mornington Peninsula, early Monday morning. Police believe the shooting was the result of a dispute, with investigators speculating that the incident may have been drug-related.
The victims were a 29-year-old man, a resident of the house, and an unnamed woman, who had reportedly visited the property with another man. Shortly after 4am, both individuals were found with gunshot wounds inside the house on Parson Street. The man who had accompanied the woman fled the scene after the shooting, and police are now searching for him. His identity remains unknown.
Victoria Police’s Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson confirmed that the incident was being treated as targeted and said authorities are working hard to piece together the motive behind the attack. “We believe they were known to each other … and that it was targeted,” she stated. While the exact reason for the dispute remains unclear, Stevenson did not rule out the possibility that drugs may have been involved.

Stevenson called on anyone with information or relevant footage to contact CrimeStoppers or the police directly. “We are very concerned. We don’t know if there is a firearm still outstanding,” she added.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have committed significant resources to solving the case. Superintendent Stevenson emphasized the importance of any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area that may assist in identifying the suspect.
As the manhunt continues, authorities are determined to bring the shooter to justice, but the community remains on edge with the gunman still at large.
