An FIR has been registered against Rahul Gandhi in Guwahati following a complaint over his controversial statement against the Indian state
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has found himself at the centre of controversy after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against him in Guwahati. The complaint, lodged by local advocate Monjit Chetia, takes issue with Gandhi’s recent statement, in which he allegedly claimed: “The BJP and RSS have captured every single institution, and we are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself.”
The FIR was registered under sections 152 and 197(1)d of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Indian Penal Code, which deals with promoting enmity between different groups and disrespecting the authority of the government, respectively. The complaint cited Gandhi’s reported remark as provocative, suggesting a challenge to the Indian state’s very authority.
This statement, reportedly made by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has ignited a firestorm of political debate, with some seeing it as an attack on the democratic institutions of India, while others defend it as part of Gandhi’s long-standing criticism of the ruling BJP and RSS.

Gandhi, a key figure in India’s opposition politics, has frequently been critical of the government, accusing it of undermining democratic principles and silencing dissent. However, this latest remark has taken the criticism to a new level, with accusations that it could fuel rebellion against the state.
While the FIR is the latest development in an escalating political battle, the controversy also underscores the increasingly divisive atmosphere surrounding Indian politics. Gandhi’s remarks will likely be scrutinised further, as the case develops in the courts and political arenas alike.
