Following mixed results, Gandhi expresses gratitude and vows to address voting irregularities
A day after the assembly election results for Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi shared his first reactions, acknowledging the support from party workers and voters. While he celebrated the Congress alliance’s victory in Jammu & Kashmir, he expressed concern over the party’s unexpected setback in Haryana.
In his statement, Gandhi thanked the voters and his party’s dedicated workers, affectionately known as “Babbar Sher.” He viewed the success in Jammu & Kashmir as a significant achievement for the Indian Constitution and a testament to democratic values. “The victory for INDIA in J&K is a win for the Constitution and a victory for democratic dignity,” he stated, underscoring the importance of these outcomes for the nation’s governance.
Conversely, the results from Haryana were less favourable for the Congress. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed victory in 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress managed to secure only 37 seats, contrary to predictions that favoured them. In Jammu & Kashmir, the National Conference won 42 seats, the BJP followed with 29, and Congress, in coalition with the National Conference, obtained 6 seats. This divergence in results has prompted the Congress party to reassess its electoral strategies, particularly in light of the reported voting irregularities.

Despite the disappointing results in Haryana, Gandhi reassured supporters that the Congress party would continue to fight for social and economic justice. He reiterated his promise to persistently voice the party’s principles and address the grievances of constituents.
The recent elections have sparked significant discussions within the Congress party about how to improve its electoral performance and better respond to challenges posed by its opponents. Gandhi’s commitment to tackling the issues raised by voters reflects the party’s resilience and desire to stay connected to the needs of the people, even amid electoral setbacks.
As the Congress party navigates the aftermath of these elections, Gandhi’s reactions highlight a dual focus on gratitude for support received and a proactive approach to addressing potential electoral misconduct. The coming weeks will likely see further developments as the party seeks to learn from these experiences and strengthen its position for future elections.
