Sofia Coppola’s film “Priscilla” explores the disturbing aspects of the legendary singer’s connection with his future wife, Priscilla Presley

The upcoming biopic “Priscilla,” directed by Sofia Coppola, delves into the troubling elements of Elvis Presley’s relationship with his future wife, Priscilla Presley. The film, set to release on New Year’s Day, portrays Elvis as a controlling figure who, shortly after meeting Priscilla at the age of 14, lured her to his bedroom.

In a shocking revelation, the movie depicts Elvis providing the teenage Priscilla with “upper” and “downer” pills to regulate her mood, contributing to the negative portrayal of the late rock ‘n’ roll icon. Australian actor Jacob Elordi takes on the role of Elvis in the film.

Priscilla Presley, now 78 and a co-producer on the movie, commends Sofia Coppola for her work, stating that the director did an “amazing job.” However, the film has faced criticism from the Elvis estate, and Lisa Marie Presley, the singer’s daughter who opposed the biopic, passed away in January.

Elvis Presley Enterprises did not grant permission for the use of Elvis’s hits, such as “Blue Suede Shoes” or “Love Me Tender,” in the controversial production. The estate’s reluctance to endorse the film may be linked to concerns about potential damage to Elvis’s annual earnings, estimated at £30 million.

The central theme of the film revolves around the unconventional relationship between Elvis and Priscilla, who maintained in her memoirs, “Elvis And Me,” that they never engaged in underage sex despite their intimate moments.

Sofia Coppola was drawn to Priscilla’s unique story, particularly the period when she attended high school while living at Elvis’s Graceland mansion. The film seeks to explore the complexities of this relationship and its impact on Priscilla.

Despite the controversy and opposition from Elvis’s estate, “Priscilla” promises to offer audiences a different perspective on the legendary entertainer’s life, shining a light on the darker aspects of his personal relationships.
