In a significant move for India’s healthcare landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 29, 2024, virtually inaugurated a series of healthcare initiatives worth ₹12,850 crore at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi. This launch coincided with the celebrations of Dhanvantari Jayanti and the 9th Ayurveda Day, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access through traditional and modern practices.
Among the key announcements was the introduction of a drone-based healthcare delivery service. This innovative initiative aims to connect premier tertiary care institutions, with AIIMS Mangalagiri playing a pivotal role in its implementation. The drone service is expected to facilitate timely delivery of medical supplies, enhancing healthcare accessibility, especially in remote areas.
The projects inaugurated fall under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), a flagship health insurance scheme designed to provide affordable healthcare to millions of Indians. This expansion is part of a broader strategy by the government, involving collaboration across various ministries including the Ministry of Ayush, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Pharmaceuticals, and the Employees State Insurance Corporation.
