The outspoken presenter pulled no punches as he criticized the Duke of Sussex’s recent legal defeat regarding his personal security arrangements in the UK.
Harry, who has been at odds with the British press and certain public figures since his departure from royal duties in 2020, found himself in the spotlight again after losing a High Court case against the British government. The case centred around the Home Office’s decision to cease providing tax-funded personal protection during his visits to the UK, a move that Harry challenged but ultimately failed to overturn.
Morgan, in his typically forthright manner, questioned the rationale behind Harry’s expectations for continued taxpayer-funded security despite his withdrawal from royal responsibilities. “Should a non-working member of the royal family…receive the same taxpayer-funded protections as the rest of his family who do all that? The answer – self-evidently – is no,” Morgan stated.
The TV personality also highlighted Harry’s shift in focus since relocating to California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children. According to Morgan, Harry’s endeavours, including his tell-all book and media productions critical of the royal family, have relegated him to the status of a “B-list, maybe C-list celebrity.”
Morgan’s critique extended to Harry’s insistence on taxpayer-funded security for his “occasional” visits to the UK, arguing that while the prince is entitled to personal security, it should not be at the public’s expense. “You can’t have your royal cake and eat it,” Morgan quipped, suggesting that Harry’s departure from the UK and the monarchy comes with certain consequences.
