The Foreign Office confirms all Pakistani nationals are safe in Syria, with efforts underway to assist those stranded by the closure of Damascus airport

The Pakistani Foreign Office provided a reassuring update on Sunday, confirming the safety of all Pakistani nationals currently in Syria. As the situation in the war-torn country remains tense, the government is closely monitoring developments and has advised its citizens to take all necessary precautions.

In an official statement, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office expressed the government’s commitment to supporting its nationals in Syria. The Pakistani embassy in Syria remains operational, offering vital assistance and guidance to Pakistani citizens, including a group of religious pilgrims (known as zaireen) who have been stranded due to the ongoing closure of Damascus Airport.

While the airport remains closed, the embassy has been in direct communication with Pakistani nationals in Syria, keeping them informed about the evolving situation. As soon as the airport reopens, the embassy will facilitate their safe return.

The statement further reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. This longstanding position remains unchanged, despite the challenges posed by the current crisis.

The Foreign Office also reminded citizens that they should remain cautious and continue to stay in touch with the embassy for any required assistance. As the situation unfolds, Pakistani authorities are prioritising the safety and well-being of their nationals, with the embassy ready to provide support as needed.

Pakistan’s government has long advocated for a peaceful resolution to the Syrian conflict, supporting efforts to maintain the country’s sovereignty in the face of international pressure and regional instability. In its latest statement, the Foreign Office affirmed that the country’s foreign policy regarding Syria has remained consistent, focusing on solidarity with Syria and its people.

The embassy’s ongoing efforts to assist Pakistani nationals in Syria highlight the importance of diplomatic ties during such uncertain times. With the closure of Damascus Airport affecting travel, Pakistan remains committed to helping its citizens navigate these difficulties and return home safely once conditions allow.

As tensions in Syria continue to evolve, Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in the country is working tirelessly to ensure that its citizens are not left stranded or vulnerable. The Foreign Office’s continued efforts to monitor the situation closely reflect Pakistan’s commitment to its citizens’ safety and security, no matter where they are in the world.
