Pop star partners with health initiatives to distribute contraceptives during her tour

In a bold move at her Missouri concert, pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo teamed up with reproductive health initiatives to offer free contraceptives and morning-after pills to attendees. This initiative comes as a response to Missouri’s stringent abortion laws, where abortion remains illegal except in life-threatening situations.

At the concert venue in St Louis, fans had the opportunity to pick up free condoms and emergency contraception, highlighting Rodrigo’s commitment to reproductive health freedom. The gesture aligns with her recently launched Fund 4 Good campaign, aimed at supporting global reproductive health rights.

Despite the legality of birth control in the U.S., Missouri’s restrictive abortion laws contrast sharply, allowing exceptions only to save a woman’s life or prevent serious health risks. A portion of Rodrigo’s tour profits is set to support the Fund 4 Good, in collaboration with the National Network of Abortion Funds.

Critics, such as Republican Missouri State Senator Bill Eigel, have voiced their disapproval on social media, mistakenly labelling the morning-after pill as an “abortifacient.” However, health experts clarify that emergency contraception prevents pregnancy rather than terminating it.

Organizations like MSI Reproductive Choices commend Rodrigo for using her platform to advocate for reproductive choice. However, they emphasize the irreplaceable value of accessible, high-quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services.

Rodrigo’s advocacy is not new. Her protest against the overturning of Roe v Wade at her Glastonbury debut in 2022 highlighted her stance on abortion rights, a move that resonated with many fans and activists alike.
