PC Christopher Miller critically injured in hit-and-run; four arrested, two face attempted murder charges
A Thames Valley Police officer is in a critical condition after being struck by a speeding car in a shocking late-night hit-and-run incident that has left a Buckinghamshire village reeling and the nation demanding answers.
PC Christopher Miller, 38, lies in hospital fighting for his life following the harrowing incident that unfolded just before midnight on Thursday, 22 May, on the B416 Bells Hill in the tranquil village of Stoke Poges, west of London.
Miller, who was responding to a routine call, was hit by a white BMW that failed to stop—ploughing directly into him and fleeing the scene. The devastating collision left him with life-threatening injuries. Emergency services rushed to the scene and Miller was quickly taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Within hours, police launched a major operation. Four suspects, all from nearby Slough, were arrested in connection with the attack. Two men, aged 28 and 38, remain in custody facing serious charges including attempted murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The other two individuals have been released pending further investigation.

Colleagues of PC Miller have described him as a dedicated officer, deeply respected within the force. “Chris is the sort of officer who always went above and beyond—an absolute rock for his team,” said one colleague. “To see him lying in a hospital bed, fighting for his life, is unbearable.”
Chief Constable Jason Hogg addressed the media on Friday afternoon, condemning the act as “cowardly and vicious.” He added, “PC Miller was carrying out his duty to protect the public. For someone to treat a police officer with such reckless disregard is beyond comprehension.”
Floral tributes have begun appearing near the scene in Stoke Poges, a normally serene village now stained by the violence of Thursday night. Locals have expressed both grief and anger. “It’s horrific,” said one resident. “This is a peaceful community. That officer didn’t deserve this. Nobody does.”
As investigators comb CCTV footage and forensic teams work to piece together the moments leading up to the collision, Thames Valley Police has issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area between 10:30 pm and midnight on the night of the incident.
The attack has also reignited debate over the increasing dangers faced by frontline officers and the escalating consequences of reckless driving. Police unions and campaigners are calling for tougher penalties and faster justice for those who harm emergency service workers.
In the meantime, PC Miller’s family maintains a constant vigil at his hospital bedside, surrounded by medical teams doing everything they can to save him. The force has pledged full support to his loved ones and promised that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of justice.
“This was a deliberate act,” said one investigator. “We believe the suspects knew exactly what they were doing. There will be consequences.”
With two suspects now facing attempted murder charges and community outrage growing, Thursday night’s senseless violence has turned into a watershed moment—one that starkly reminds the nation of the real risks our officers face every day.
