Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher’s health update unveiled as 10th anniversary nears

As the 10th anniversary of his life-altering skiing accident approaches, Michael Schumacher’s close friend and former Ferrari chief, Jean Todt, offers an exclusive update on the Formula 1 icon’s current condition.

Schumacher, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, suffered severe injuries in December 2013 during a skiing trip in the French Alps, leading to six months in a medically-induced coma. Since then, the racing legend has remained out of the public eye, with Todt being one of the few granted access to his world.

Todt, who served as Ferrari’s team principal during Schumacher’s dominant years, recently shared insights into Schumacher’s present state. Speaking to L’Equipe, Todt disclosed, “Michael is here, so I don’t miss him. [But he] is simply not the Michael he used to be. He is different and is wonderfully guided by his wife and children who protect him.”

The 54-year-old Schumacher, residing on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, has undergone a profound transformation since the accident. Todt emphasizes that Schumacher’s life has taken a different trajectory, with the unconditional support of his wife and children playing a pivotal role in his journey.

Todt, who remains a steadfast friend, acknowledged the inevitable changes, stating, “Unfortunately, fate struck him 10 years ago. He is no longer the Michael we knew in Formula 1.”

Corinna Schumacher, Michael’s wife, previously opened up about their life in a Netflix documentary in 2021, revealing, “I miss Michael every day. But Michael is here – different, but here. He still shows me how strong he is every day.” She detailed the family’s commitment to providing the best possible quality of life for Schumacher, including therapies and shared moments at home.

The family’s decision to keep details private aligns with their commitment to protecting Schumacher’s privacy. Corinna emphasized, “We are getting on with our lives, ‘private is private’ as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, now we are protecting Michael.”

While the details of Schumacher’s health remain guarded, Todt’s revelation sheds light on the ongoing challenges and triumphs the iconic racer faces, surrounded by the unwavering support of his loved ones.
