Shocking sleepover scandal: Dad allegedly tampers with treats, leaving kids in peril
In a horrifying turn of events that sounds like it’s straight out of a parent’s worst nightmare, a father, Michael Meyden is under the spotlight for allegedly doping the drinks of his daughter’s friends during what was supposed to be an innocent sleepover in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The incident, which unfolded on the evening of August 26 last year, has left the community in shock and disbelief.
Michael Meyden, 57, is accused of adding a sinister twist to a batch of mango smoothies he prepared for his 12-year-old daughter’s three friends, spiking them with a powerful medication often prescribed for insomnia and anxiety disorders—benzodiazepine. The allegations have sparked widespread concern, leading to Meyden turning himself into the local authorities, where he firmly denied any wrongdoing despite the serious accusations hanging over him.
The evening, expected to be filled with movies and laughter, quickly descended into a nightmare. The girls reported the smoothies had an unusual appearance, with “tiny white chunks” floating and dusted on top. The aftermath of consuming the concoction was alarming; one of the young guests described feeling dizzy, overheated, and uncoordinated, eventually losing consciousness and plunging into a deep, unnerving sleep.
Adding to the disturbing narrative, it was reported that Meyden made multiple trips to the basement, where the girls were sleeping, to check on their state, even going as far as to test if they were awake by waving his hand in front of one of the girl’s faces.
In a desperate bid for safety, one of the girls reached out to her mother through a series of panicked text messages around 2 am, begging to be rescued from the unsettling situation. Her texts were a chilling plea for help, indicating she felt endangered and pleading for immediate extraction from the house under the guise of a family emergency.
This story took a turn towards resolution when a family friend, alerted by the distressed texts, arrived to retrieve the frightened girl, subsequently informing her parents about the alarming situation.
As the legal proceedings against Meyden unfold, with his attorney Mark Cogan calling for a suspension of judgment until all facts are brought to light, the community is left grappling with the unsettling reminder of the vulnerabilities that come with trust and the sanctity of childhood innocence.
The Lake Oswego Police Department, yet to disclose a motive behind Meyden’s alleged actions, has refrained from further comment on the ongoing investigation. This case serves as a stark warning about the unforeseen dangers lurking in seemingly safe environments, prompting a dialogue on vigilance and the protection of our children.
