Meghan Markle’s holiday special receives scathing reviews, with critics calling it a ‘fever dream’

Meghan Markle’s Christmas special, which recently aired on Netflix, has received a wave of negative reviews, with critics branding the festive programme as “pointless” and “unfathomable.” The Duchess of Sussex appeared in a one-hour special of her lifestyle show, joined by a variety of celebrity guests, to indulge in festive crafts, cooking, and holiday cheer. However, the episode quickly became the target of harsh criticism from media outlets.

Despite receiving support from Meghan’s loyal fanbase, who expressed their delight over social media, the programme has been savaged by industry critics. One publication referred to the special as “quite mad and a little bit sad.” The Times described the episode as a “fever dream,” while The Telegraph accused Meghan of “trying too hard” with the presentation of the festive content.

This Christmas special comes just four months after the second season of With Love, Meghan aired on Netflix, which also drew similar negative attention. Critics were quick to voice their disappointment with the show, which was deemed “uninspired” and “uninnovative” by some.

However, the holiday special was far from Meghan’s only recent venture. Just hours after the program’s release, the Duchess of Sussex made an exciting announcement regarding her brand, As Ever. She unveiled a new product collaboration with Los Angeles-based chocolate company Compartes. The limited-edition range includes three luxurious chocolate bars – dark chocolate with raspberry spread and sea salt, white chocolate with flower sprinkles and hemp hearts, and shortbread cookies with bee pollen.

The launch has proved to be a success, with all three chocolate bars selling out almost immediately after their release. The bars, priced at £9 ($12 USD) each, quickly flew off the shelves of the As Ever website, much to the delight of fans. Meghan’s announcement on Instagram showed off the decadent flavours and the beautifully decorated bars, packaged in floral wrapping.

Despite the popularity of the chocolate collaboration, the release of her Christmas special has sparked debate about Meghan’s place in the entertainment industry. While some have praised her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, others remain critical of her approach to both television and business.

In response to the criticism surrounding her Netflix show, Meghan’s team has not issued a formal comment, though the Duchess has continued to post on social media, maintaining a presence that many perceive as a consistent attempt to further her personal brand.

Meanwhile, outside of the controversy surrounding Meghan’s Christmas special, the British royal family has seen their own headlines continue to dominate media attention. As Meghan’s programme received backlash, other members of the royal family have been spotlighted in their own respective news stories. Princess Kate is gearing up for her fifth annual Together at Christmas service, while Sarah Ferguson has reportedly been house hunting in the Windsor area after her forced eviction from Royal Lodge.

While Meghan Markle’s latest Netflix project may not have struck the right chord with critics, her continued entrepreneurial pursuits, such as the As Ever collaboration, show that she is not letting the negative reviews dampen her determination to build a legacy outside of the royal family. Whether her future endeavours will find more success remains to be seen, but for now, the public’s reaction to her Christmas special has overshadowed her other ventures, making it the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of Meghan Markle’s post-royal life.
